After
the founding of the People’s Republic of China, October 1st is officially
announced to be National Day of China. Every Chinese people has the 7-day
holiday to celebrate and commemorate this great event.
Now
let’s learn more about Chinese National Day.
1. Origin
In 1949,
Chinese people ended the suffering from endless wars with triumph and
established the People’s Republic of China on September 21st 1949. Then on
October 1st, people held a grand ceremony held at Tiananmen Square to celebrate
the founding of New China and government. On October 2nd, 1949, October 1st was
officially written in the “Resolution on the National Day of the People’s
Republic of China” to be the National Day of China. Since then, all Chinese
people hold various activities to celebrate this holiday every year.
2. Holiday
Schedule of Chinese National Day in 2018
The
holiday starts from October 1 and ends on October 7. People need to keep
working on September 29 and 30, and they will restart work from October 8.
3. Customs
(1)
Military Review & Parade:
Since
1949, the Military Review & Parade at Tiananmen Square has been a big and
meaningful event on Chinese National Day. This activity is carefully prepared
and shows the Chinese military force. It attracts people from home and abroad
all over the world. There are 14 Military Review & Parade from 1949 till
now, and it is now held in a small scale every 5 years and in a large scale
every 10 years.

(4) Flowers:
Many
cities’ streets are decorated with flowers, and people put the various flowers
into the shape of “国庆快乐(guó qìng kuài lè)”--Happy
National Day.
(5) Chinese National Flag:
People put mini Chinese national flags on
streets, in houses, stores and cars,and they all have a seal of the national
flag on their faces as well as arms. You can see Chinese national flag
everywhere.
(6) Discounts:
Many stores will provide consumers great
discounts.
(7) Golden
Week:
People
will travel abroad or have a trip to other Chinese provinces, because the holiday
is long enough.
The
holiday is also called “Golden Week” as the consumption in China is tremendous
during this period.
4. Travel
Tips
During
this holiday, lots of people will go out to have trips. Therefore, the train
tickets, flights tickets and rooms of hotels are difficult to be ordered and
become more expensive than workdays. You need to plan your travel as early as
possible. Or you’d better not depart on the first day of holiday. Also, avoid
visiting the popular places, or what you see is not beautiful scenery, but lots
of people.
